About Event

So you’re hosting a podcast?

Superbly Done Media presents a 60 minute online (Zoom) masterclass with a MAX of 10 people, on how to be a great podcast host.

Led by two of the best presenters and producers in the business, we’ll guide you through the ins and outs of interview techniques - including narration, the best ways to ask tricky questions. We'll also cover how to manage a panel podcast, how to get the best out of difficult guests and a h*ll of a lot more including a multitude of tips, tricks and inside info from two BBC broadcast veterans.

Elizabeth and Sarah have both interviewed hundreds of guests for BBC radio shows and podcasts so know exactly what it takes to be a brilliant host and get the most out of your guests - and yourself.

Who will be presenting the masterclasses?

First up is Sarah Treanor, who worked at the BBC for 15 years as an Executive Producer and documentary maker on BBC radio 4 and BBC World Service radio. Her credits include Business Editor for the Today programme on Radio 4, Features and Commissioning Editor for Business Daily on the BBC World Service and producer/reporter for The Documentary on the World Service. Sarah has also worked as an Executive Producer for World Bank podcasts, the Whitley Fund for Nature and the Design Museum; so it’s safe to say she knows what will work … and what won’t.

Elizabeth Hotson was a presenter, producer and reporter for BBC radio 4 and the BBC World Service for 18 years. Her presenting and reporting credits include dozens of shows for Business Daily, Business Matters and Weekend on World Service radio. And for Radio 4, Elizabeth has reported for From Our Own Correspondent, You and Yours, The World At One, The World Tonight, PM and the Today Programme. She also produced Hargreaves Lansdown’s Switch Your Money On podcast and was the launch producer for Vogue Magazine’s The Run-Through.

About the masterclass

You’ll get an introduction to the basics of how to host a podcast. We’ll be focusing on audio, but many of the insights you’ll gain will also be relevant to video.

We’ll be covering:

How to deliver scripts with polish - We’ll cover the basics of scripting a podcast and how to deliver it with clarity and warmth.

Conduct an interview with confidence and authority - We’ll look at the techniques you’ll need to take control of your podcast. This includes dealing with tricky guests!

How to get the best out of your interviewee - We’ll look a range of elements from drafting questions and briefings, to helping your interviewee feel at ease.

How to manage a multi-person podcast - Perhaps one of the most difficult skills you’ll need as a host, but we’re there to help you sail through a panel/multiple guest situation.

Q&A

Can we ask questions?

Yes but please leave them until the dedicated 10 minutes at the end of the podcast. We’ll ask you to email us your questions in advance in case we need to do some further research

Will there be a break?

Yes! After the first part of the masterclass, you’ll have a few minutes break before the Q&A section.

Who is the masterclass for?

It would suit someone who’s hosting - or wants to host a podcast as part of their job or hobby. It would also be a good grounding for people who’d like to learn more about being a great presenter in general.
