Irish Dance: Cultural Nationalism vs. Colonialism

​This workshop will contemplate Irish Dance--its origins, characteristics, and history.  We will discuss the Irish language, Catholics and Protestants, Nationalism, Republicanism and Unionism; the establishment of the Irish Republic and Northern Ireland, Colonialism, and The Troubles. We will also learn two short (and not too difficult!) Irish Dance combinations called the “Skip-Two-Threes” and the “Sevens.”  Everyone is warmly invited to join us--no prior experience in dance needed!  Fáilte (welcome in Irish)!
