About Event

Corporate Venture Capital (CVC) now participates in over 20% of all venture deals, deploying tens of billions of dollars globally. Yet, this increasingly important form of capital and the unique incentives, complex deal structures, and dual mandates of CVC is largely ignored  in favor of institutional VC funds.

Join author and venture capitalist Freddy Dopfel for a practical, founder-focused session dissecting how to evaluate, negotiate, and leverage Corporate Venture Capital. Drawing from direct experience across institutional venture, deep-tech engineering, and corporate venture units, this talk explores how startups can safely navigate the complex terrain of corporate venture capital and turn their corporate partners into an unfair advantage.

What We’ll Cover:

  • Institutional vs. Corporate VC: Understanding the structural differences, internal corporate incentives, and how CVCs balance financial returns against strategic imperatives.

  • Unlocking the "CVC Alpha": Where corporate investors add non-dilutive value and how to make the most of it, from accelerating enterprise customer discovery and joint development to navigating complex regulatory pathways.

  • Decoding Deal Terms & Side Letters: Walkthroughs of real-world scenarios and fictional case studies highlighting key terms to seek (and pitfalls to avoid) around IP rights, information access, and commercial exclusivity.

  • Timing & Engagement Strategy: How to determine if your startup is "enterprise-ready" and how to cultivate an internal corporate champion before asking for a check.

  • Live Q&A: An open forum to answer questions on fundraising, cap table strategy, and negotiating with corporate partners.
