About Event

Join EA NYC for a talk with Kelly Erhart from Outlier Projects on one of the most underappreciated dimensions of climate change: nonlinearity.

Kelly will explore how climate risks don't scale predictably—how feedback loops, tipping cascades, and tail scenarios could produce outcomes far worse than mainstream projections suggest, and what this means for how we prioritize action.

Central to this is the problem of temperature overshoot: the danger that climate disasters could derail the very decarbonization and adaptation efforts we're counting on, and what tools might stabilize climate systems at the necessary speed and scale.

Kelly Erhart is Director of Strategy and Partnerships at Outlier Projects, which accelerates frontier research to predict and prevent catastrophic climate risks—including runaway feedback loops, planetary tipping points like the collapse of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet, and the systemic dangers of overshooting the Paris Agreement's 1.5°C limit.
