Repair Cafe
Got a toaster that won't toast, a lamp that won't light, or a favourite bag with a broken zip? Don't throw it out. Bring it to us.
On World Repair Day, Maker's Asylum opens its doors as a Repair Café: a free, community-run space where neighbours, makers and volunteer fixers sit down together to repair everyday things. Electronics, small appliances, clothes, toys, bicycles, furniture. If you can carry it in, we'll try to bring it back to life.
This isn't a drop-off repair shop. You stay with your item and fix it alongside a volunteer. You'll learn how it works, why it broke, and how to keep it running. Even when something can't be saved, you'll leave knowing more than when you came in.
Why it matters: Too much of what we own is designed to be thrown away. Every repair keeps something out of a landfill. It also builds a bit more confidence in our own hands and a bit more connection to the people around us. It's the maker spirit we've built at the Asylum for over a decade: tinker, fix, share.
What to bring: Your broken item, any parts or manuals you have, and your curiosity.
Who it's for: Everyone. Families, students, retirees, first-time fixers and seasoned tinkerers.
Cost: Donations welcome to our Vitamin M($$) Jar
Want to volunteer as a fixer? If you're handy with a soldering iron, sewing machine or screwdriver, we'd love to have you.
