Poetry Meridian:Launch of the "Series of Contemporary Chinese Poets" (English Translation)
To promote the development of poetry, showcase the creative achievements and styles of outstanding contemporary Chinese poets, and foster dialogue and exchange between Chinese and international poetry circles, the first four volumes of the "Series of Contemporary Chinese Poets" (English translation), a collaborative publication between the Poetry Construction and the Slapering Hol Press of the Hudson Valley Writers Center, have recently been published in the United States.
Poetry Construction is a poetry journal founded and edited in Hangzhou and distributed nationwide. Its mission is to promote the development of Chinese poetry and strive to bring contemporary Chinese poetry to the world stage. Since its inception in 2011, it has had a wide and significant impact on Chinese poetry.
For this series of contemporary Chinese poets, Poetry Construction specially invited Professor Wang Jiaxin, a renowned Chinese poet residing in the United States, to serve as the director of the translation and publication project, and collaborated with the Hudson Valley Writers Center, which has influence in the New York area and throughout the United States.
This series of poems features four poets: Zhang Shuguang, Lan Lan, Huang Jiyun, and Quan Zi, all of whom are important and outstanding poets in contemporary China. Current U.S. Poet Laureate Arthur Sze, renowned poet Jane Hirshfield, prominent Chinese-American writer and poet Ha Jin, and prominent Chinese poets Bai Hua, Geng Zhanchun, Cheng Guangwei, and Zhang Qinghua, among others, have all highly praised the works of these poets in their recommendations.
This series of English translations of contemporary Chinese poets, also known as the "Meridian Poetry Translation Series," is edited by Chinese poet Wang Jiaxin. The "Meridian Poetry Translation Series" has previously published selected poems by American poets Arthur Sze, Jane Hirshfield, and Ilya Kaminsky in Chinese editions, which were widely acclaimed in China. Now, it presents selected English translations of poems by these four outstanding contemporary Chinese poets to American readers.
To showcase the creative styles of contemporary Chinese poets and promote dialogue, translation, and exchange between Chinese and American poetry, Poetry Construction and Slapering Hol Press, the Hudson Valley Writers Center, will collaborate to host the launch and sharing session for this series of contemporary Chinese poets (English edition) on April 3, 2026, from 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM at the Accent Bookstore and Art Space in New York.
