TWO MINUTE SCARF - the meetup
the two minute scarf was created by artist jonas speiker.
they write:
2 Minute Scarf
The design and creation of this scarf follow a predefined principle. Each row is crocheted for two minutes, regardless of whether you have reached the end of the previous row or have already gone past it. Once the time is over, you go back in the other direction.
The project explores the irregularity inherent in craft processes and how to integrate this into the design. When crocheting, a certain amount of time-related irregularity is likely always present, no matter how skilled one is. However, if one wants to crochet a uniform scarf, time usually doesn’t matter. One crochets from the beginning to the end and from the end to the beginning. Later on, it is impossible to tell from the scarf how much time was required to make it. The linear result hides the natural irregularities of the process. It may also no longer be possible to tell whether it was made by hand or by machine.
This scarf deliberately includes the factor of time in its design. It reveals human irregularities, despite a nearly perfect stitch pattern.
The characteristics of the process are highlighted and used as a design principle. This creates transparency and traceability of the manufacturing process.
The design follows the process and not a predetermined desired result. So to speak, form follows process.
let's meet together and create our own two minute projects. think of it like speed dating: sit down with your tools of choice, the timer will start for two minutes, and we will continue for an hour.
this meetup is craft agnostic - bring whatever you want to work on. let's free ourselves from the perfection surrounding knitting and create something tied to the moment we're in.
see you there!
