About Event

Join us for our second Karl Popper discussion meetup!

This is an informal discussion group where we will have a discussion loosely based around a recommended (but not mandatory) reading.

This week's reading: Karl Popper's "What is Dialectic?"

Popper takes on the idea that thought develops through a "thesis → antithesis → synthesis" pattern (associated with Hegel and later Marx), arguing it's really just a special case of trial and error — and that treating contradictions as fruitful rather than fixable opens the door to dangerous dogmatism.

Discussion Guide

Format (about 2 hours):

  • Welcome & framing (10 min) — Quick intro to tonight's topic and a walkthrough of how the night will run.

  • Three small-group rounds (~15 min each) — groups of 3, reshuffling each round so no one repeats a group. A shared list of discussion questions is available as a recommended guide.

  • Open floor (remainder of the night) — mingle freely and talk to anyone.

Vegan mezze spread and pita bread will be provided!
