Republic Services Otay Sustainability Park Tour
Join Republic Services for an exclusive guided tour of Otay Sustainability Park, home to one of the most innovative landfill and composting operations in California. This event offers a rare opportunity to explore how modern landfill management, recycling, and organic waste diversion are shaping a more sustainable future for San Diego.
Republic Services has invested over $50 million into transforming the Otay Landfill into a comprehensive sustainability hub. On this tour, you'll learn about:
California’s SB 1383 law and how Republic Services is helping communities meet organic waste diversion goals.
Our solar-powered composting facility, the first of its kind in the state, capable of processing up to 400 tons of organic material daily.
The THOR system, a cutting-edge de-packaging technology that processes up to 20 tons of food waste per hour, reducing contamination and improving recycling outcomes.
Our Construction & Demolition (C&D) Recycling Center, which recovers materials like wood, concrete, and metal for reuse.
Republic’s broader sustainability initiatives, including the transition to electric collection vehicles, landfill gas-to-energy systems, and future plans.
After a brief presentation, guests will board a van for a guided site tour, including stops at the THOR de-packager and composting facility, active landfill face, and C&D center. This experience is ideal for professionals, students, and community members interested in environmental engineering, waste management, or corporate sustainability.
