What happens when the cell network goes down — a blackout, a hurricane, or just being three miles deep at Burning Man?
This is the second of our Resiliency Action Labs: salon ideas, made physical. We talk a lot about fragility. This is a night where you acquire a skill to fight against it and build collective power.
Spike from Signals Rising — an off-grid communications nonprofit — is joining us to teach Meshtastic and HAM radio. The short version: how to stay connected with no towers, no internet, no infrastructure. Just small LoRa devices talking to each other, peer to peer.
You'll leave with three things:
– the know-how to register for your own HAM radio license (easier than you'd think)
– the literacy to actually run a Meshtastic node
– a community of people who are now a little more resilient than they were yesterday
Custom Meshtastic radios will be available to purchase on the night, so you can walk away with hardware if you want it.
Expect slides, live demos, and plenty of hands-on time.
