culture sniffers @ museum jan
join us wednesday evening at museum jan for a tour of their current exhibition, christiaan kuitwaard – painter of silence, and their permanent studio glass collection, guided by conservator and glass artist tomas hillebrand. we’ll explore the private studio and home of museum founder and artist jan verschoor, and end the evening with drinks together.
about the exhibition:
christiaan kuitwaard – painter of silence is a retrospective spanning 30 years of painting of the friesian artist christiaan kuitwaard (b. 1965), and highlights his play of light and shadow, his 'white box paintings' of everyday objects, and atmospheric landscapes.
about the studio glass collection:
museum jan houses a collection celebrating the studio glass movement: an international shift where glass artists broke away from traditional factories, built their own ovens, and claimed total creative autonomy. we will explore masterpieces born out of this movement, including works by sybren valkema, andries copier, mieke groot, and bert frijns.
about jan verschoor:
artist and museum co-founder jan verschoor has lived at dorpsstraat 44 since 1962. in 1990, the museum was built adjacent to his home. we get a rare look inside his personal museumhuis and atelier, where his life story and evolving sculpture collection intertwines.
about the museum:
located just outside of amsterdam in the historic centre of amstelveen, museum jan is an institute dedicated to modern art and sculpture, with a world-renowned specialization in studio glass. though small, the museum combines international artists with personal heritage of its founder, making it a perfect backdrop for dialogue.
see you there!
