How do we fix a corrupt democracy? (expert Q&A & dinner party with Fix Democracy First)
What you should know (food! fun! friends!)
About the event:
October's monthly theme is DEMOCRACY and how it intersects with the climate crisis. The second Tuesday of the month is our LEARN night
Our featured guest is Sawyer McCrabb, who joined Fix Democracy First as its Executive Director in 2026. Previously, he worked for six years for his hometown's U.S. Congressman in eastern Connecticut, where he learned to understand the power of meaningful constituent engagement and centering local outcomes. Sawyer understands that the corrupting influence of monied interests in our elections, steering the direction of government, is the defining issue of our time.
The current campaign of Fix Democracy First is called "People-Powered Elections", which is following the lead of Montana and Hawaii to find a way around the Citizens United Supreme Court decision. Learn more and sign the resolution here.
Please do your best to arrive by 6:30!
6-7ish will be dedicated dinner + chat time, 7-8pm will be our expert Q&A with conversational breakouts, and 8-9pm will be choose-your-own-adventure peer learning
More broadly:
Soapbox Seattle is the city's most joyful community space for climate action. We gather EVERY TUESDAY same time same place (climate church?? lol)
It's all ages, as long as your kid(s) can be respectfully quiet during any Q&A portions of the evening. We love kids and babies and have plenty of supplies for them.
Plant-based dinner is always included so you don't have to think about what to eat. We have our own lovely chef so the food is cooked with love from local and regenerative farmers
No you do not have to be "a climate person" to come; you just need to be excited to meet people who share your values of caring about the earth/each other/wanting to breathe air etc. and no experience is required!
There will be activities and programming! This is not one of those networking events where you pretend to be on your phone because you don't know what to do.
All our events are sliding scale and if the litsed options don't work for you, you can request a reparative ticket here if you need one. It costs us ~$35 per person to put on so please contribute what you can.
This space is hosted by Soapbox Project, a nonprofit that creates joyful community structures to heal our climate anxiety and loneliness through expertly facilitated connection, learning, and action activities. Find your place in the climate movement with our online and in-person community!
