Ten hours to one: How HubSpot's Starter Story team repurposes one video into dozens
Turning one YouTube episode into a week of social clips used to take HubSpot's Starter Story team ten to twenty hours. It now takes under an hour.
One 258K-view episode came back as 55 published clips and another 1.35 million views across five platforms.
Sam and Pat Walls built Hub & Spoke on Descript's API to do it. Kathy Wang, Descript's VP of Product, asks how.
What we'll get into:
- The build. Hub & Spoke pulls a published video and its transcript, a Claude skill ranks the clip ideas, and the Descript API and Underlord handle the cut, the captions, and the 9×16 layout. About two minutes a clip.
- The part they kept manual. A producer greenlights or kills every suggestion. The system gets them 80% of the way and stops there.
- The hard part. A tightly structured episode clips cleanly. A conversation that wanders doesn't. Cuts still end mid-sentence. What they do about it.
- Where it meets pipeline. A comment on a clip triggers a lead magnet and lands as a tracked lead back in HubSpot.
Starter Story now publishes about 100 short-form pieces a week, all of it through this pipeline.
Worth an hour if turning one recording into a month of posts would help your team. Also worth it if you're the one who'd have to build it.
