Breaking down money basics for life in Toronto

Starting a life in a new city is exciting but managing money in Toronto can feel confusing, stressful, and overwhelming.

From understanding credit to keeping up with the cost of living, many newcomers and students are figuring things out on their own.

Finance Unlocked is a small, interactive community session designed to help you feel more confident, informed, and in control of your finances in Canada.

This isn’t a formal seminar or a slide-heavy workshop.
It’s a conversation-first space where you can ask real questions, learn practical strategies, and connect with others navigating the same journey.

What you’ll walk away with

  • A realistic approach to budgeting in Toronto

  • A clear understanding of banking and credit in Canada

  • Practical saving strategies for students and early-career professionals

  • Common financial mistakes newcomers make and how to avoid them

  • Everyday habits that build long-term financial stability

What the experience looks like

  • A warm welcome and introduction by The Toronto Theory

  • Money Reality Check – a guided icebreaker around real financial experiences

  • A conversational session with our guest speaker sharing practical insights and lived experiences

  • The Toronto Budget Challenge – a hands-on group activity based on real city expenses

  • Community reflection and shared learning

  • Casual networking and meaningful connections

The session is intentionally small, relaxed, and judgment-free. Come as you are, participate as much or as little as you’d like, and leave with clarity and confidence.
