ROPE PLAY FOR PEOPLE NOT NECESSARILY “INTO” ROPE

I thought I was not into rope stuff, but then earlier this summer I got a couple of chances to play around, and it was amazing!!! I was really surprised by how interesting it was - a lot of experiments around sense, connection, attunement, all tremendously fun and great. It really blew my mind. I've been running a series of events with friends and they have been amazing!

Location and date TBD

Luma makes me put in a location and date for the event. These are still being figured out. It is not actually taking place on New Year's 2028 at City Hall.

Not a kink event. Not a sex party. Maybe a sexy party

Some people find the play at these parties very sexy; for some people, it's more about connection or emotional exploration or sensual experience. That said, the party is not explicitly sexual: there was no sex at the party and no kink play other than rope.

Not about knots

There is no emphasis on technical skills: This isn’t about knots or stuff like that. It’s about physical communication, paying attention to sensation, to pleasure, playing with control and surrender. It turns out you can do all that without even learning a single knot. This is the thing that I'm most interested in: how to quickly get people to a point of comfort and deep connection using Ropes

Good ways to play with other people

I've been spending lots of time developing different exercises and structures that make it easy for people to find new people to play with, play in pairs, at whatever level they're comfortable with. I'm really happy with what I've come up with, and I'm excited to explore it more.

Somewhere between a party and a workshop

Part of the evening is structured exercises; part of the evening is more unguided play. I've been doing a few of these, and we keep altering the balance between workshop and party... I'm hoping to lean a little bit more toward party with this one.

How are consent and safety managed?

We want to make sure this space is safe, both physically and socially. We’ll have someone on hand whose dedicated purpose is to oversee the play and look out for any issues of safety that arise. Of course consent is paramount in all this work: it’s all about boundaries and communication. We also want this to be brave space as much as a safe space: We invite you to try things that feel unfamiliar, and expect everyone has a responsibility to care for themselves as they also look out for each other. Here is the handout from the last workshop. It includes some of the consent guidelines, and other information about how the workshop runs. (Because good consent is informed consent, which means knowing what you're signed up for)

Is this a public event?

No. this is a private event just for invited friends

Can I bring a plus one?

Yes. We ask that it be someone you trust and can vouch for. We also ask that each person coming register individually. If you want to bring more than one guest, contact the organizers.

Who is running this event? I bet he is very cool.

I’m Misha, I’m running the event. most people reading this know me, but not everybody does . I do lots of things in the city including the Trampoline Hall Lecture Series, the All About Intimacy conversation series, The Toronto Event Generator newsletter and microgrant program, and other things. I'm not so much a ropes expert as an expert in getting people to connect in meaningful ways. I’ve been running all sorts of workshops for a long time (including improv theater and music, some fun collaborations with the folks from Birdhaus), and I love creating spaces for learning and exploration. That said, I hope for my role in this event to not just be that of a facilitator but also as a participant. I am here, as much as anybody, because I'm trying to find connection and to figure out my own stuff.
