​This luncheon program brings together community members, leaders and allies across the Greater Seattle and Tacoma Area to build safety and power across diverse communities for progress. Technology and digital rights are increasingly at forefront of efforts to undermine privacy, community organizing, and civic participation. To counter this, we provide a baseline for safety, a critical discussion at the intersection of tech & community organizations, and a map to the grassroots tech ecosystem that protects efforts for civic progress.

​We invite progressive movement leaders, community organizers, community institutions, civic technologists, donors and philanthropic institutions from the Greater Seattle-Tacoma Area to participate in this event.

​This program is organized and facilitated by Liminal Works (a grassroots nonprofit), in partnership with several Seattle leaders and sponsored by Seattle Social Venture Partners. Speakers will be announced September 10th.

​Program Overview

​Doors open at 10:45am and coffee/water is provided at opening.

​At 11am, we start the program with a focus on the personal: The first hour focuses on digital safety practices that enable personal and community protection. This essential training is designed for those involved in community movements or whom engage with communities under threat. Participants are welcome to bring their laptop and are encouraged to bring a pen. This training is provided by Liminal Works, a grassroots nonprofit focused on safeguarding frontline efforts for LGBTQIA+ rights, gender justice, and immigrant communities.

​Boxed lunches will be served at 11:55am, prior to two discussions

​At noon, we move on to the social: Our narratives and choices around AI are artificially reduced and put many community institutions under impossible pressure. We disentangle mainstream narratives through a discussion with local context and align on ways to create more community power and agency in the process of understanding root causes of the polycrisis affecting community institutions.

​Lastly, we bring new systems to light: Efforts to build a different tech ecosystem are taking place in Seattle and across the nation. Hear from local efforts and learn about new standards for digital inclusion that are grounded in privacy and digital sovereignty - allowing for democracy to flourish with the help of civic technologists and platforms doing real things now to aid communities under threat.

​The event will conclude at 1pm with a historic program announcement. Participants are welcome to stay to network and connect until 1:30pm.

​Food

​Coffee and bottled water will provided for all. A choice of boxed lunches will be offered to those who register at least 24 hours in advance.

​Accessibility

​Program space (+ bathrooms) are wheelchair accessible. Bathrooms are available on the same level as the event. Parking is available in the Seattle Public Library's underground garage.

​Cost

​Thanks to the generous sponsorship from SVP Seattle, the venue and food is provided at no cost to attendees. The program cost is incurred by Liminal Works and others in the program, and future opportunities to join their donor programs will be shared at the event. No solicitation of donations will occur at the event, which is prohibited by SPL guidelines.
