Directors Doing Individual Contributor Work
Should design directors be doing IC work?
For the past few years, design organizations have been flattening. Managerial roles have become scarce while directors have responded by transitioning into staff+ IC roles.
Some directors have relished the change, finding it necessary to go deep into the details with new AI workflows being adopted, while others have felt stretched more than ever before.
In this event, we're curating small groups of 4-6 directors and super ICs to discuss their experiences and challenges. Groups will be assigned beforehand based on questionnaires, with each group owning a different theme.
We look forward to discussing top of mind topics like what’s driving this transition, its effects on design organizations, hiring, the broader industry, and how we should rethink the trajectory of our careers.
A full catered dinner with drinks will be served courtesy of Koi Studios.
Chatham House Rule
To ensure everyone feels comfortable sharing their challenges with their roles and organizations, this event will not be recorded.
While folks can share stories of what they've learned, they must anonymize these stories and situations.
We're keeping this event small to a max of 30 attendees.
Who is this for?
We welcome RSVPs from directors of design, senior managers, VPs, and also some super senior ICs, especially ones who have transitioned from senior management roles.
