ピッチタイトル「uLtra-PGA: Ultra-High-Molecular-Weight L-PGA for Cosmetics and Beyond」

ピッチタイトル「Research and Development of a “Comprehensive Immune-Response Evaluation System” Using an Antibody Language Model」

~ Kansai Tech Seeds x CXO Candidate Matching Meetup ~
Accelerating the Creation of University-Launched Startups! A Networking Event for Researchers and CxO Candidates!

To bring innovative technologies and ideas generated by university researchers into society, the power of business development talent and partner executives who can shape these technologies into viable businesses is absolutely indispensable.

KSAC and ECP-KANSAI support the creation of university-launched startups in the Kansai region by matching "researchers conducting cutting-edge research" with "CxOs."

At this event, we will dive deeper into matching research-oriented entrepreneurs with CxOs through successful matching case studies and pitches from researchers currently seeking CxO candidates. We have also allocated dedicated time for matching and networking with these researchers.

Whether you are interested in management and launching new businesses leveraging university research seeds, or searching for the seeds of business to do work that benefits society, we highly encourage you to join us!

[Date & Time]
Tuesday, October 6, 2026, 1:30 PM – 3:30 PM (Expected)

[Event Overview]
Through pitches from researchers currently seeking CxO candidates, we will explore the matching process between research entrepreneurs and CxOs. The event will also feature matching opportunities and a networking session with the participating researchers.

【Speakers】
Hiroaki Kitagishi | Professor, Doshisha University
「The World’s First CO-gas Antidote 」
Seeking the Following Partners:VCs, CDMOs, CROs with global capabilities, advisors well-versed in overseas markets and regulatory affairs
・Research Summary
A synthetic hemoglobin, hemoCD, is potentially used for an injectable antidote for carbon monoxide poisoning because of its high CO binding ability and rapid excretion in urine. With a CO poisoning antidote as our top-priority pipeline, we are currently advancing research and business development.

Onuma Chumsakul | Project Assistant Professor, Kobe University
「uLtra-PGA: Ultra-High-Molecular-Weight L-PGA for Cosmetics and Beyond」
・Research Summary
To reduce the environmental burden associated with petroleum-derived polymers, there is growing global demand for alternative materials that combine biodegradability with high functionality. Unlike commonly used DL-PGA, γ-poly-L-glutamic acid (L-PGA) is a stereoregular, biodegradable biopolymer composed exclusively of L-glutamic acid units. In addition to its high water-retention capacity, its stereoregular structure offers potential for efficient polymer-network formation, supporting applications in film-forming cosmetic ingredients, medical materials, superabsorbent materials, and bioplastics. However, conventional L-PGA fermentation using halophilic archaea is limited by low productivity and high manufacturing costs, which have restricted its use mainly to premium cosmetic ingredients. To address this challenge, we developed a proprietary production technology based on Bacillus subtilis that enables the production of uLtra-PGA, an ultra-high-molecular-weight L-PGA exceeding 20 million Da. Compared with conventional methods, our process achieves approximately 28-fold higher productivity while using a medium with approximately one-seventh the cost. We are currently validating uLtra-PGA’s moisturizing and film-forming performance, safety, and quality specifications for use as a cosmetic ingredient, while establishing membrane-based purification and a scalable manufacturing system in collaboration with CDMO partners. Starting with commercialization in the cosmetics market, we aim to expand uLtra-PGA into applications such as medical hydrogels, superabsorbent materials, and bioplastics, ultimately commercializing the technology through a university-originated startup.

Yohei Funakoshi | Kobe University
「Research and Development of a “Comprehensive Immune-Response Evaluation System” Using an Antibody Language Model」
・Research Summary
We are developing G-QASAS, a technology that combines genetic information from immune cells (antigen receptor repertoires) with AI to comprehensively assess immune responses occurring in the body. Amino acid sequences contain a wealth of biological information. By analyzing antigen receptor repertoires using an antibody language model—an AI model trained on diverse antibody sequences—we aim to establish an innovative, data-driven approach for comprehensively evaluating immune responses, ranging from those associated with infections and vaccination to those directed against cancer and self-antigens.

Kentaro Yaji | Assistant Professor,The University of Osaka
「Beyond HumanDesign: Reinventing Cooling through Next-Generation Optimization」
Seeking the Following Partners:CEO candidates, research collaboration partners
・Research Summary
Cooling is becoming a critical challenge across industries, from semiconductors and data centers to EVs. This pitch introduces next-generation optimization technology that creates entirely new physics-based designs, going beyond human experience and intuition to deliver unprecedented cooling performance, along with our vision for bringing this technology to industry.
