Frances Adair Mckenzie "not really now not anymore"

​Envelope is pleased to present, not really now not anymore, a solo exhibition by Canadian artist Frances Adair Mckenzie. This work is a departure for the artist, an installation that steps out onto the sidewalk and invites the passerby in. Throughout the exhibition period Adair will engage with the public, asking questions like, what happens when we become a container for the world’s data? These conversations will act as recursive feedback for the video text allowing the public to inform the work’s development.

​A custom animation rig mounted on the ceiling holds a figure suspended in perpetual free fall. A state between weightlessness and collision. This figure speaks directly to a floor-mounted stereoscopic camera, delivering an intimate monologue that navigates the boundary between private bodily interiority and public transmission, laying the ground for a video text that continuously evolves through conversation with the audience.

​Through filtered light, malleable skins, and low-fi mechanics, Mckenzie resists the myth of the weightless virtual. The work lingers in the heat of archival depositories, asking what language, trapped memory speaks and what slips away when living forms are held in static preservation.
