What if every meal could tell a story about who we are, where we come from, and how we care for the planet?

As part of Bangkok Climate Action Week 2025, the Youth Atlas x Youthtopia collective of

National Geographic Explorers invites you to join A Meal is a Map, a storytelling and counter-mapping workshop where food becomes a story, a memory, and a map of our shared future.

In this workshop, participants explore how ingredients carry memory, identity, and heritage.

Beginning with a neighborhood walk through Chinatown’s markets, we gather stories of sourcing, family recipes, and homegrown traditions. Back at ASAI Chinatown, participants will create their own “food maps” using drawing, textiles, and eco-printing that link ingredients to places and histories. Together, we’ll cook and reflect on how meals carry heritage, identity, and the choices we face around sustainability and food systems.

The workshop ends around the table, sharing dishes and stories as a collective meal — an ephemeral archive of our community, our cultures, and our climate connections.
