From Forest Fires to Transboundary Haze: A Call for Collective Action in Southeast Asia

​Forest fires are no longer a national issue—they are a regional climate challenge.

​As haze from Indonesia’s 2026 fires crosses borders, Southeast Asia is once again confronting the shared impacts of forest loss, accountability gaps, and fragmented responses. Bringing together perspectives from civil society organizations and environmental practitioners across Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and other SEA countries*, this dialogue will explore how transboundary haze affects communities across the region, where current responses fall short, and what stronger regional cooperation should look like. The session will spotlight the need for solidarity, shared responsibility, and coordinated action to protect Southeast Asia’s forests and communities.
