Sobremesa(barcelona) - Will you retire, or will AI retire you?
For most of human history, people were defined by what they believed, who they loved, where they came from. Then capitalism came along and simplified everything. You are what you do.
We took the oldest question in philosophy, who am I and why am I here, and answered it with a business card. Aristotle called that a tragedy. We called it a career.
AI didn't create this problem, it just made it impossible to ignore. When a machine can do the thing you spent a decade learning, the real question surfaces: what were you using your job to avoid asking?
Because the threat of AI is not just economic, it is psychological. Lose your job and you lose your income. But for most people in this room, you also lose your story. The one that justified the years, the sacrifices, the identity you built so carefully that you forgot it was a construction.
Camus said the only serious philosophical question is whether life is worth living. We'd add a footnote: what happens when the structure that gave your days their shape gets automated?
To guide that conversation, we're joined by Miguel Andres. PhD computer scientist, ex-Google top 3% tech lead, co-founder of Evalion, which has evaluated over a million AI conversations in production. He built the systems doing the disrupting. He is not here to reassure you.
Along the way, we'll ask:
When work stops defining us, what does?
Which parts of your job are already gone, and you just haven't noticed?
Is there a version of this that ends well, and for whom?
