WEBINAR: How Secure are Philadelphia’s Urban Gardens?
Philadelphia's hundreds of urban gardens are vital community assets that provide food access, pollinator habitat, green space, and social cohesion in neighborhoods across the city. Unfortunately, many of these gardens face threats to their long-term viability. Building on the city's 2023 Urban Agriculture Plan, the Philadelphia Garden Data Collaborative* has collected new data on the city's urban gardens and assessed the extent of their land security. Join a webinar with the researchers to hear their analysis, and how we can use the information to better protect these spaces.
In this webinar, you will learn about:
Four dimensions that affect garden security
Updated data on the footprint of urban agriculture in Philadelphia
Data about current trends in ownership and security of Philadelphia's urban gardens, and how race and income interact with these trends
Opportunities to support urban gardens for preservation and greater resilience
