Logos Circle / Los Angeles
Welcome back to Logos Circle, Los Angeles.
About Logos
Logos brings together a technology stack and a social movement. The stack provides decentralized, private-by-default tools for communication, storage and coordination. The movement builds local institutions on it through community action, problem solving, skill building and mutual aid.
About Logos Circles
Logos Circles are local, self-organizing groups that take action on real issues. This month we're running testnet nodes, reading the new Logos zines, planning the Circle's whistleblowing app move to Testnet v0.3, and picking one LA issue we can move on immediately.
Everyone is welcome whether you've been here since the first Circle or this is your first time.
Winnable issue
The objective is to leave with one issue the Circle can act on before the next gathering, a first action, the people to carry it, and a date to report back. It doesn't have to be technical.
We'll also check in on the Circle's ongoing project, the whistleblowing app for LA entertainment workers who need to report abuse without being identified. We'll cover updating to Testnet v0.3, and how we test it before a public release.
Agenda
- Arrival and welcome: settle in, reconnect and meet new people.
- Introductions: new faces introduce themselves and returning members reintroduce. Come ready to share what brings you here.
- New zines: printed copies of Local Area Network Issues 01 and 02.
- Run a node: run a Logos Blockchain testnet node from Basecamp, or from the command line with logosctl.
- Basecamp: what it runs today and how to build your own app on it.
- Whistleblowing app: the v0.3 update plan and how to help test it.
- Pick a winnable issue: choose one LA issue we can act on now, then agree the first action and who's doing it.
- Wrap-up: node check, next steps and the next Circle date.
Bring a laptop
To run a node, install Basecamp before you arrive: logos.co/basecamp. It runs on Linux, Apple silicon Macs and Windows 10/11 (on Windows, the node app needs WSL2). Intel and AMD laptops need a CPU with ADX support: Intel Broadwell or newer, or any AMD Zen.
Laptop not required to attend!
