Transformative Justice: Navigating conflict avoidance, heartbreak, and community-building in precarious times (Reading & Zine Launch)
Join Care, Cradle, and Melanie Brazzell for an evening of discussion and reflection on Transformative Justice to celebrate the publication of our freshly published zine, Transformative Justice: Navigating conflict avoidance, heartbreak, and community-building in precarious times. The zine explores how to address conflict within ourselves and our communities because “we can’t be abolitionists AND conflict avoidant, y’all!”. Through somatic exercises, creative workshop prompts, and storytelling from our own organizing, we share tactics for how to build community bonds strong enough to intervene and de-escalate rather than look away when conflict, harm, or violence happens. And strong enough to build bridges between a heartbroken present and a utopian future, learning how to reconcile between seemingly conflicting opposites within ourselves.

About the authors:
Care (they/them) is a Transformative Justice & somatic practitioner, doula and artist. They created Erotics of Liberation, a space dedicated to practicing the relational capacities that make domination obsolete: accountability, generative conflict, repair, and staying connected liberation on the map of our collective body. They offer workshops, courses and resources for everyone to practice generative conflict, because conflict is the smallest unit of abolition, and abolition is relational practice. They write a newsletter on Substack called The Erotics of Liberation.

Cradle is an abolitionist collective made up of people radicalised by our shared experiences of gender and racial marginalisation. Melanie Brazzell, PhD (they/them), is a transformative justice practitioner and social movement researcher. They use participatory research with movement collaborators in the U.S. and globally to study and teach non-punitive, non-carceral, and community-based responses to gender-based violence. Melanie has previously published the What really makes us safe? Toolkit, Handbook for Transformative Work with People who’ve Caused Harm, and Transformative Justice Knows No Borders report.
