Sound Meditation through Dhrupad
Decoding the ancient art form of Dhrupad
Join us for a morning riyaz and a small introduction + workshop to the practice by Dhrupad master Shri Chintan Upadhyay on Saturday, 5 September at _subkontinent.
Dhrupad music is the oldest tradition of classical Indian vocal music originating from early chanting of the Vedic hymns and mantras. It is an ancient system of sound and music resonating with the development of the human consciousness . The workshop on 05.09 is an introduction to the practice. No music experience required.
Chintan is a Dhrupad singer groomed in the Guru Shishya tradition under the tutelage of Pt. Uday Bhawalkar. Chintan is the creative director of the Alembic Dhrupad Foundation in Vadodara, India, where he has been teaching students and spreading the fragrance of this majestic art. He began learning music from his parents at the age of 5, and later completed his Masters degree in the Khayal vocal style at Pune University, before surrendering to Dhrupad.
