About Event

Making Sense

Read the world. Read the machine. Read the impact.

Build instruments that help people make sense of the world, of the machines now describing it to them, and of what those machines are doing to it. Applied AI, visual semiotics and digital public goods.

DAY ONE
Fri 13 November
10:00 to 17:00

DAY TWO
Fri 20 November
09:00 to 16:30

The Themes:

Read the world
Query Gapminder’s indicators and misconception benchmark. Find what people get wrong and show the data.
TRACK PARTNER - Gapminder

Read the machine
On open models and agent stacks, show what an agent did: trace its tool calls, attribute claims, flag guesses.
TRACK PARTNER - Intelligent Internet

Read the impact
Make AI’s effects on jobs, energy, health and information legible, and build tools communities can act with.
OPEN DATA
Our World in Data, Epoch AI, AI Incident Database

Every team works two crafts: accessibility and visual semiotics. Or take the open lane: any dataset, any sense-making problem.

ON HAND
Intelligent Internet compute credits for every team, plus developer expertise from Intelligent Internet and Gapminder, in person or online.

WHO SHOULD COME
Coders, designers, data people, and anyone who thinks about how meaning gets made. Teams of two to six, formed on the day; existing project teams welcome too.
