Building with Forests: Advancing Forest-Positive Construction
How can we deliver affordable, resilient and lower-carbon buildings while sustaining healthy forests and responsible forest value chains?
Meeting growing housing needs while reducing emissions and safeguarding forests requires changes in how we build, the materials we choose and the partnerships that make implementation possible.
Building on discussions at the Global Bioeconomy Summit in Dublin, this official COP31 side event will bring together government representatives and leaders from cities, international organisations, industry, finance, philanthropy and the forest sector to explore how responsible timber and other biobased construction can contribute to better housing and lower whole-life emissions.
The event will present the Building for Forests COP31 Success Package, highlighting implementation progress since 2024 and identifying the policies, investments and partnerships needed to accelerate delivery.
The discussion
Two moderated conversations will connect political leadership with practical implementation:
Government leadership: From progress to next action
Government and institutional representatives will share examples of implementation, examine what enabled progress and identify the policy, procurement and partnership decisions needed to move forward.
Housing demand, delivery and responsible scale
Representatives from housing, cities, forest systems, industry and design will explore how to scale responsible construction, strengthen confidence in sustainable sourcing, overcome delivery barriers and mobilise investment.
The discussion will focus on practical next steps and opportunities for collaboration through COP32 and 2030.
The objective is not another general pledge, but concrete progress towards better homes, lower whole-life emissions and living forests.
