The Future of Research Management
As AI makes it easier to produce polished and persuasive proposals, what will evaluators look for next?
This AIRON presentation will explore how generative AI may reshape research evaluation, funding processes, and the role of research managers and administrators. As proposal writing, coordination, compliance checks, reporting, and strategic analysis become increasingly AI-supported, the value of RMA expertise may shift towards judgement, credibility, governance, institutional knowledge, and responsible decision-making.
The session will also consider how funders may respond, including stronger verification requirements, greater emphasis on track record and institutional capacity, new transparency expectations around AI use, and possible changes to peer review and assessment criteria.
🔍 In this session, we will explore:
• How AI may reshape research evaluation and funding processes
• What funders may value when polished writing becomes easier to produce
• How agentic AI could affect research management workflows
• Where RMAs create value in an AI-enabled environment
• What responsible responses institutions and funders may need to consider.
