About Event

Hosted by the Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities Engagement Forum, this closed, in-person workshop will convene both Indigenous Peoples and local community members in a safe space to strengthen shared understanding of benefit sharing in carbon project contexts, exchange lived experiences across regions, and co-create practical guidance on what “high integrity” benefit sharing should require in practice

Across three interactive sessions, grounded in roundtable exchanges, plenary discussion, and structured co-creation, the workshop will:

  • explore how benefit sharing is understood and experienced on the ground (including both technical and lived dimensions);

  • unpack what “high integrity” benefit sharing could look like in relation to the ICVCM’s work (including the Core Carbon Principles (CCPs) and Continuous Improvement Work Programs (CIWPs)) and identify gaps;

  • define and document Indigenous Peoples’ and local communities’ “non‑negotiables” for benefit sharing agreements, alongside key concepts and terminology communities should understand before entering agreements.

About the Engagement Forum

The Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities Engagement Forum is a unique self-governed space built for, and led by, Indigenous Peoples as well as local communities. The Forum’s core aim is to ensure that the rights and interests of both Indigenous Peoples and local communities are central in a high integrity carbon market. The Forum holds a neutral position on carbon markets and seeks to enable communities to self-strengthen so that they can choose whether to engage in the market in an informed way - not as beneficiaries but as co-owners and equal partners. The Forum is hosted by the Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (ICVCM) but operates independently.
