Lightning Talks #4: Nobody Handed Me This @ Kübe
Worktugal's Lightning Talks is back at Kübe. Three people, ten minutes each, then real questions, then the room opens up.
This isn't a pitch night. Nobody's up there selling a course, and nobody's expected to perform. It's three people talking honestly about how they actually got where they are, in a room that's rooting for them, not judging the slides.
This one's a real mix. A designer who's spent two decades figuring out what actually makes people change. A brand strategist who left 13 years of corporate life to go independent. A Cisco strategy lead who landed her role in Lisbon after a full year of not knowing if she would. Different fields, same real thread, building something new somewhere that wasn't handed to them.
Come as you are. Grab a seat, listen, ask a real question if you've got one.
SPEAKERS
Jessica Labesehr, "Human by Design"
15 years designing products and building brands taught her: the edge isn't more tech, it's being human. She's built for Booking.com and fintech and travel companies, later joined an AI startup in Portugal, and co-founded Alma Humans, a botanical skincare company. Her real point: technology changes what we can do, human nature still decides what actually works. More at twodegreeturn.com.
Pepe Leyton, "AI SUCKS. IF YOU SUCK AT AI."
Independent creative director and brand strategist from Argentina, now based in Setúbal, Portugal, more than 20 years of experience. Started as a copywriter, spent 13 years at Turner/Time Warner in Atlanta and Buenos Aires building and leading creative teams for Cartoon Network, TNT, Warner Channel, and TNT Sports. Today, through LeytonLab, works with brands, founders, and leadership teams across Europe, the US, and Latin America on strategy, storytelling, and content.
Jennifer Boicic, "Making the Leap: Navigating Uncertainty"
Global Strategy and Planning Leader at Cisco, Lisbon, and separately coaches mid-career professionals through international moves via JKB Coaching. First in her family to go to college, she carried the dream of living abroad for years before finally doing it, resigning from a 4 and a half year run at ServiceNow to make the move real. Her talk is about what it actually took to land the Cisco role as an American in Lisbon, and the uncertain year of searching that came before it, not the polished version.
WHERE WE'RE HOSTING THIS
Kübe is Alvalade's anti-office, an industrial-chic coworking space built around community, not just desks. This is the fourth Lightning Talks night we've run there. This edition's on Kübe's covered patio, a smaller, cozier setting than past editions, string lights and all. Outdoor terraces, a real restaurant downstairs (Conca, healthy food, not a cafe), phone booths, private studios, and a genuine mix of company teams and independent builders sharing the same building.
Kübe's own team will be there to say hello.
HOUSE NOTES
Free, fast wifi in the space. Bring a water bottle if you have one, refill stations are inside. No smoking. Kübe is pet friendly, bring your dog if you've got one. The event runs on the covered patio, the rest of the building is reserved for Kübe's own members and teams.
TICKETS
Standard Access, free.
Community Booster, 3 to 5 euros, your call. Not required, it just helps keep this series running, the room, the water, the small logistics that add up every time we host. Goes straight into hosting the next one. First word on what's next, and a shoutout.
STAY IN TOUCH
Bring a friend if you've got one, the room's genuinely better with more real people in it.
