BEDA Connect: Accesibility | "The Standard is, there is no Standard"
Accessibility should not be an afterthought. It should be embedded into the way we design products, services, systems and experiences from the very beginning.
Following the first event in the accessibility series, BEDA Connect returns on 5 November for another conversation exploring the opportunities, challenges and future directions of accessible and inclusive design.
Theme: "The Standard is, there is no Standard: fostering change through accessibility"
This edition will feature:
Dr Niels Hendriks (Belgium) will present “Design Is Never Neutral,” on involving people living with dementia in the design process and the mistakes that led him to work more relationally.
Christopher Hildrey (United Kingdom) will present “When Everyone Is an Edge Case,” exploring what accessibility means when there is no standard user to design for, drawing on his ProxyAddress project for people experiencing homelessness.
Moderated by Dr Abi Hird (United Kingdom), founder of Defankle Innovation, who works on designing inclusive teams and embedding accessible design practice into everyday work, guiding the discussion across both case studies.
Participants can expect an engaging discussion that continues the accessibility journey launched through the MADres project, examining how design can contribute to greater inclusion, participation and innovation across society.
BEDA Connect is a public platform for sharing knowledge and raising awareness around the key objectives of MADres. It brings together designers, researchers, businesses, policymakers and anyone interested in the role of design in creating more accessible and equitable futures.
