PauseAI Montreal Movie Night: Wider than the Sky
Schedule:
7:30 pm - doors open.
8:00 pm - screening of a couple short, related clips.
8:20 pm (approx) - screening of feature presentation, Wider than the Sky (1 h 23 min).
Location: Plateau Mont Royal near Rachel and St. Laurent (register to see address)
For the second edition of PauseAI Montreal Movie night, we'll be watching the new documentary, Wider than the Sky. From the FIFA Film Festival website:
Wider than the Sky explores what many consider humanity’s greatest challenge: artificial intelligence.
The film ventures into this unknown territory through science, poetry, and art, traveling the world in search of an answer capable of revealing what makes us human, what can save us from a destructive trajectory, and help us build a better future.
The movie will be preceded by one or two short, related clips, and followed by a discussion.
The Monic Conference
I intend to generally hold film screenings every other Thursday, but on Thursday March 19, the Montreal Initiative For Consciousness will be holding the (free) conference, Artificial intelligence: where does the concept of consciousness begin? (There is also a Luma event for this.) I will be attending this conference, and I expect some people in this group will want to as well, so I've scheduled our screening for the next day, Friday March 20. I expect it will nicely complement the conference.
Donations
This event is listed as "Free", and I indeed intend these movie nights to be usually free of charge, and payment is not required. However, because accessing this movie requires purchasing an online festival pass, I'm asking for donations ($10 suggested) to help cover the costs. Payment can be emailed to jeremyeliosoff@gmail.com, or given in cash at the door.
