β𧡠On The Needle: Hijab Making Sewing Social
βPlease note: ALL workshop bookings are non-refundable.
βWhether you've always wanted to learn how to sew, are looking for a creative new hobby, or simply want the freedom to create your own beautiful hijabs, On The Needle is your chance to learn in a relaxed, beginner friendly environment.
βFor this workshop we will guide you through the essential foundations of sewing and help you create your own handmade hijab from start to finish.
βBy the end of the workshop, you'll leave with a beautiful, wearable hijab and the skills needed to continue making more at home. After this workshop, you won't have to pay expensive prices for hijabs or settle for wearing the same designs as everyone else. You'll be able to choose any fabric, colour, print, or texture you love and create your own unique pieces using the skills you'll learn during the session.
ββοΈ What to Expect (4β5 Hour Session)
βAll materials and sewing equipment will be provided.
βThis includes:
βSewing machines
βPractice fabrics
βThreads and sewing tools
βMeasuring equipment
βGuidance and support throughout the session
βWHAT IS NOT INCLUDED: Please note that attendees will be required to bring their own hijab fabric.
βFor the best experience, we recommend bringing fabrics like cotton, calico, muslin, viscose and modal. These fabrics are beginner friendly, easy to sew, and create a beautiful finished hijab. While other fabrics such as chiffon, silk , satin and in particular jersey can be very challenging for those who are completely beginners. We recommend choosing a beginner friendly material because you will be able to make more hijabs in the session and not be as frustrated with your machine. You are welcome to choose any colour, pattern, or print that reflects your personal style.
βDuring the workshop, you'll learn:
βIntroduction to the sewing machine and its basic functions
βHow to thread your machine correctly
βHow to wind and load a bobbin
βHow to change a needle safely
βOverview of different stitch types and when to use them
βPractice time using scrap fabric to build confidence
βFabric preparation and cutting techniques
βProfessional hemming and finishing methods
βStep-by-step guidance on creating your own hijab as well taking home a paper pattern of your hijab to replicate in the future
