β€‹πŸ§΅ On The Needle: Hijab Making Sewing Social

Please note: ALL workshop bookings are non-refundable.

Whether you've always wanted to learn how to sew, are looking for a creative new hobby, or simply want the freedom to create your own beautiful hijabs, On The Needle is your chance to learn in a relaxed, beginner friendly environment.

For this workshop we will guide you through the essential foundations of sewing and help you create your own handmade hijab from start to finish.

By the end of the workshop, you'll leave with a beautiful, wearable hijab and the skills needed to continue making more at home. After this workshop, you won't have to pay expensive prices for hijabs or settle for wearing the same designs as everyone else. You'll be able to choose any fabric, colour, print, or texture you love and create your own unique pieces using the skills you'll learn during the session.

β€‹βœ‚οΈ What to Expect (4–5 Hour Session)

All materials and sewing equipment will be provided.

This includes:

  • Sewing machines

  • Practice fabrics

  • Threads and sewing tools

  • Measuring equipment

  • Guidance and support throughout the session

WHAT IS NOT INCLUDED: Please note that attendees will be required to bring their own hijab fabric.

For the best experience, we recommend bringing fabrics like cotton, calico, muslin, viscose and modal. These fabrics are beginner friendly, easy to sew, and create a beautiful finished hijab. While other fabrics such as chiffon, silk , satin and in particular jersey can be very challenging for those who are completely beginners. We recommend choosing a beginner friendly material because you will be able to make more hijabs in the session and not be as frustrated with your machine. You are welcome to choose any colour, pattern, or print that reflects your personal style.

During the workshop, you'll learn:

  • Introduction to the sewing machine and its basic functions

  • How to thread your machine correctly

  • How to wind and load a bobbin

  • How to change a needle safely

  • Overview of different stitch types and when to use them

  • Practice time using scrap fabric to build confidence

  • Fabric preparation and cutting techniques

  • Professional hemming and finishing methods

  • Step-by-step guidance on creating your own hijab as well taking home a paper pattern of your hijab to replicate in the future

  • Tips for achieving neat, durable, professional-looking finishes

By the end of the session, you'll have completed your own handmade hijab and gained the confidence to continue creating more independently.

β€‹β˜• Continued Sewing Support

All attendees will also receive access to our upcoming Walk-In Sessions at a discounted rate.
