What The World Can Learn From Ukraine's Energy Resilience - Razom We Stand & chilli

The event takes place on the margins of the New York Climate Week, one of the world's most influential gatherings on climate, energy, finance and sustainable development, bringing together governments, multilateral institutions, philanthropies, investors, civil society and private-sector leaders. Its overlap with the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly High-Level Week creates an unusual concentration of diplomatic, institutional and financial decision-makers in New York.
Five years of sustained Russian attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure have produced hard-won practical knowledge on distributed generation as critical infrastructure, on keeping damaged grids operating under repeated attack, as well as on ensuring that reconstruction strengthens energy security without creating decades of new fossil-fuel dependence.
This expertise carries relevance far beyond Ukraine. Climate change, geopolitical instability and other forms of disruption are forcing governments around the world to reconsider energy systems built around assumptions of stability and centralised supply. Ukraine's experience, therefore, belongs within a wider international conversation about how energy systems can become cleaner, more distributed and more resilient.
This event places Ukrainian energy practitioners at the centre of the multilateral climate conversation, positioning Ukraine as a source of expertise rather than as a recipient of aid.
The event will bring together practitioners and finance experts in three working conversations held under Chatham House rules. Each conversation pairs a Ukrainian practitioner with a peer counterpart from Moldova, the Philippines and South Africa. Together, the three conversations address three interconnected questions: who controls the energy system, how it survives disruption and what kind of system emerges from crises. Through the lenses of sovereignty, resilience and transformation, they place Ukrainian expertise within a broader international conversation about building energy systems for an increasingly unstable world.
