Service Opportunity: Glassroots

​DESCRIPTION

​We are excited to invite you to volunteer with Glassroots this spring and be part of hands-on coastal restoration work in Southeast Louisiana.

​During the event at the Glass Half Full warehouse, participants will build sandbags using locally recycled glass that has been crushed into sand and repurposed burlap sacks from local coffee roasters. These sandbags will be used to construct a protective berm in the Lake Borgne area in June 2026. This project is designed to help slow erosion and restore damaged marshland by closing a cut in the continuous marsh.

​After the sandbag berm is installed, native marsh grasses will be planted behind it to support revegetation and long term ecosystem recovery. This coastal restoration project will slow erosion and support long term marsh recovery by stabilizing land, building sediment, and encouraging healthy plant growth.

​Please note this service opportunity involves light physical activity. In order to participate in this service opportunity, you must sign Glassroots' waiver.

​Buses will leave from Tulane University Law School (6329 Freret Street) at 12:45 PM and return by 4 PM. CRCL is located at 3935 Louisa St., New Orleans, LA 70126.

We provide free glass recycling services, promote environmental education and stewardship, and implement partner-driven coastal restoration and stormwater management projects using recycled glass sand and gravel in Southeast Louisiana.
