About Event

Recology has state-of-the-art recycling and composting facilities and this in-depth, behind-the-scenes tour will take us through both the Recology Transfer Station at Tunnel Ave and the Recycle Center at Pier 96.

We'll see the machines and methods of San Francisco's employee-owned Recology facilities up close. We'll also hear from staffers about the successes and challenges of their work to divert waste from landfills and move toward resource recovery.

The tour is for adults as well as supervised children 9 years old and up, and lasts 2.5 hours. Because the tour involves traveling from Tunnel Ave to Pier 96, all attendees will need to have a car or join a carpool for the tour itself (see carpool info when you RSVP). Please also plan to stay for the entire tour. Pants and closed-toe shoes are required and a water bottle is recommended.

After the tour, those who are interested can continue on to the nearby Hungry Cafe and park, where you can (buy or bring your own) lunch. Join us for this fun and fascinating infrastructure field trip, on Veterans Day (an SFUSD holiday)!
