Now founder of EduGrade AI, a 2026 MassChallenge UK finalist, and featured in OpenAI Academy's global Professors Teaching with AI series.
From a university faculty member to an award winning AI-driven tool for student assessment, this is the story of how Dr Deepshikha got there.
In this session, we sit down with her to talk through how it actually happened. How she first noticed the problem with marking and feedback at Queen Mary University of London, UK, how she built the case for solving it, and the plan she put together before she ever opened an AI tool. Then how she used AI to bring that plan to life, what she was trying to achieve, and what it took to get there.

Dr Deepshikha is a Teaching Fellow and researcher at Queen Mary University of London, and a 2026 Google Higher Ed Faculty AI Fellow, selected as part of the inaugural EMEA cohort. She is the Principal Investigator of EduMark AI, a Queen Mary research project using generative AI to give students faster, more consistent and personalised feedback, while keeping final academic judgement with the educator. EduMark AI won Queen Mary's President and Principal's Prize at the 2025 Education Excellence Awards, the university's highest institutional honour, and has been backed by the Drapers' Fund for Innovation in Learning and Teaching and the Queen Mary Impact Fund. The work was also featured in OpenAI Academy's Professors Teaching with AI series, selected from an international pool of submissions. Building on this research, Dr Deepshikha founded EduGrade AI, an educator-led platform that helps universities cut marking time while keeping every grade and comment under educator control. EduGrade AI was recently named a finalist in the MassChallenge UK 2026 Accelerator Programme. She is also a Senior Fellow of Advance HE and a Member of the Royal Society of Chemistry, with a background spanning chemistry, materials science, and AI in higher education across the UK, China, the US, and India.
