Safeguarding Sydney's waterways: sustainable ecosystems, biodiversity, and the great eel migration

​Our waterways are living systems - supporting biodiversity, shaping our cities, and strengthening our ability to adapt to a changing climate. Join us for a panel discussion exploring how healthy catchments play a critical role in climate resilience and the creation of more sustainable, nature‑positive places.

​Bringing together diverse perspectives across culture, ecology, infrastructure and climate action, we will examine how cultural heritage, biodiversity and adaptation intersect and what this means for the future of Sydney’s waterways. The session will conclude with a Q&A, offering practical insights into supporting resilient ecosystems in a changing climate.

​The discussion will be grounded in one of nature’s most remarkable journeys - the annual migration of eels from the Coral Sea through to Parramatta’s waterways - a powerful reminder of the connectivity and care required to sustain healthy river systems.
