Ecosophical Neighbourhoods: Designing to Live Well with the Planet
How do you feel about the future?
Across Australia and globally, communities are facing interconnected challenges — housing affordability, ecological decline, social fragmentation, and rising climate anxiety. And yet, around the world, ecovillages and regenerative neighbourhoods are quietly demonstrating that another way of living is possible.
This online session introduces the concept of Ecosophical Neighbourhoods — community-led design grounded in ecological wisdom, regeneration, and relational ways of living. Drawing from international research, the Global Ecovillage Network, Indigenous perspectives of Country, and lived experience from Australian eco-communities, we explore how neighbourhoods can support both people and Nature to thrive together.
Facilitated by Tanya Mottl, Ambassador for the Global Ecovillage Network and member of Narara Ecovillage, alongside Dr Alex Pelizzon, Associate Professor, School of Law, Southern Cross University, this panel brings together Australian practitioners and researchers to discuss:
The measurable wellbeing and ecological benefits of eco-living
The Aboriginal notion of Country as Land, Sky, Water, and relationships
Youth engagement and intergenerational action
The upcoming Towards Ecosophical Neighbourhoods Symposium (University of the Sunshine Coast, June 2026)
Opportunities to participate in the Digital Agora in early June
This conversation sits at the intersection of Health & Wellbeing, First Nations leadership, and community-led climate action.
If you care about housing, local resilience, regenerative design, or strengthening community in a changing climate — this session is for you.
