Asymmetrical Gathering Basket With Birch Handle
Spend a day weaving a practical, sculptural gathering basket with a warm, handmade feel. This design features a rounded, pot-belly shape and an offset birch handle that gives the basket its easy, asymmetrical character — sturdy, useful, and just a little wild.
Together we’ll build the form from the ground up, learning traditional techniques along the way. You’ll practice whaling to strengthen and define the body, slewing to gently shift the shape and create smooth, flowing lines, and finish by attaching a solid birch handle for lasting strength and balance. These skills are foundational and carry easily into many future basket projects.
This class is suitable for beginners as well as experienced weavers who want to explore shaping and structure. We’ll move at a steady pace with plenty of guidance, time for questions, and a relaxed, community atmosphere.
By the end of the day, you’ll leave with a durable, pot-bellied gathering basket ready for market trips, garden harvests, or everyday use.
