WordPress + Codex: Build a Custom Template and Plugin
What if you could design a custom WordPress experience and build the plugin that makes it work?
In this in-person hands-on workshop, we’ll use Codex and generative AI to create a complete WordPress Event Launch Kit. Together, we’ll design a polished landing-page template and build a companion plugin that adds custom event functionality.
Participants will see how Codex can help transform a design idea into working WordPress code, explain unfamiliar concepts, troubleshoot problems, and refine the finished experience. We’ll explore visual direction, page structure, responsive styling, custom content, reusable components, and the fundamentals of WordPress plugin development.
This workshop is especially valuable for designers, content creators, and WordPress users whose ideas previously required help from a developer. You don’t need to become an expert programmer. Instead, you’ll learn how to direct Codex, evaluate its work, and use it as a collaborative design and development partner.
By the end, we’ll have built a working custom WordPress template and plugin—and you’ll have a practical workflow for turning your own ideas into functional WordPress experiences.
Experience level: Beginner-friendly. No advanced coding experience is required, although some familiarity with WordPress may be helpful.
What to bring: Bringing a laptop is optional. If you would like to follow along and experiment with Codex and WordPress, you’re encouraged to bring one. You’re also welcome to attend, watch the demonstration, and take notes.
Free to attend! Lunch provided.
