You Don't Have a Leadership Skills Gap. You Have a Leadership System Gap.
You know what good leadership looks like. But when three things are on fire, are you actually leading that way?
Maybe you’re still the escalation point for everything. Your calendar doesn’t reflect the priorities you say matter most. Your ideas get agreement in the room but little action afterward. The challenge isn’t knowing what to do. It’s building a leadership system that holds up under pressure.
In this interactive session, Art Akerman will share his leadership framework shaped by his experience as a CTO at Microsoft and VP of Engineering at FICO, and refined through his work coaching senior technical leaders today.
We’ll explore four areas that determine how effectively you operate as a leader:
Attention: Are your time and decisions aligned with your real priorities?
Leverage: Can your team deliver results without depending on you?
Influence: Can you create movement when you don’t control the decision?
Consistency: Do your leadership practices hold up when the pressure is on?
Then, we’ll put the framework into practice by looking at one of your most limited resources: your attention. You’ll examine your own calendar and priorities to identify where the way you’re actually spending your time may be working against what you’re trying to accomplish.
Come prepared to work on your own leadership system, not a theoretical case study. You’ll leave having diagnosed a real challenge in how you’re operating today and with one concrete change to put into practice the very next week.
--ABOUT OUR SPEAKER--
Art Akerman coaches CTOs, VPs of Engineering, and senior technology leaders. Before coaching, he spent 30 years in their chair: CTO, VP of Engineering, and VP of Architecture at Microsoft, Capital One, and FICO, leading teams of up to 300 and directing $100M+ transformation programs.
He works with leaders whose technical judgment is already trusted, and whose leadership now has to hold under considerably more pressure as they step into executive roles or are being considered for them. The FORGE framework this session is built on is what he uses with clients: four domains, twelve mechanisms, one scale.
He is an ICF Professional Certified Coach, holds a Master's in Management of IT from the University of Virginia, and has coached leaders across the U.S. and Europe. Based in Virginia.
