About Event

One book, one group chat, one month, one table. That’s our Monthly read.

For one month, we read The Names together, with our WhatsApp group as our shared notes app.

We share thoughts along the way and drop in questions you can answer whether you’re on chapter two or already finished. Observations and plot twists are shared in a way that keeps spoilers to a minimum.

We close the month offline with The Book Review: one hour, one table, one question. Is this book worth a finish?

Finishing is not required. Showing up is.

The WhatsApp group opens on 1 December.

The book
What if one name could change your whole life?

In this gripping, tender debut by Florence Knapp, Cora walks to the registry office in 1987 to name her newborn son. Her husband expects the baby to carry his name, her daughter has another idea, and Cora has one of her own. From that moment, the story splits into three: three names, three versions of one life, followed every seven years. Each choice ripples out through the whole family, for better and for worse.

Family, fate, and the small decisions that turn out to be huge. Moving, hopeful, and perfect for the quiet days between Christmas and New Year.

Content warning: this book deals with domestic abuse.

What to expect

  • 20% discount at Bruna.nl to buy the book. Discount will be shared in the Whatsapp group

  • Every format counts. Paperback, ebook, library copy, audiobook.

  • Half-read is enough. Many of us don’t finish.

  • First timer? Most people come alone. You won’t be new for long.

  • Read in whichever language you prefer. Talks are in English.

  • This isn’t a lecture, a class, or a one-hour event. It’s a month of reading together, with enough room to just say: “Hey guys, I don’t think I want to finish this.”

Good to know

  • You can join until 48 hours before The Book Review. After kick-off on 1 December, First timer tickets are no longer available, and you’ll have missed part of the conversation.

  • Drinks are at your own cost.

  • No refunds. But you can pass your ticket to a friend or swap it for another online or offline read via info@herhalfreadbookclub.com.

See you in the chat, lovely!
