Berkeley Robotics Community Showcase: Where Generations Meet
Berkeley is building the future of robotics. You're invited to see it happen.
On May 21, Berkeley Gateway Accelerator is bringing together high school innovators, university researchers, and deep tech startup founders for an afternoon showcase celebrating what's being built across the Berkeley robotics ecosystem.
What's happening:
🎤 Keynote by Ken Goldberg: A William S. Floyd Distinguished Professor of Engineering at UC Berkeley and an award-winning roboticist, filmmaker, artist and popular public speaker on AI and robotics. At UC Berkeley, Ken trains the next generation of researchers and entrepreneurs. He has published over 450 papers, 3 books, and holds 10 US Patents. Ken’s artwork has been featured in 70 art exhibits including the Whitney Biennial. He is a pioneer in technology and artistic visual expression, bridging the “two cultures” of art and science. With unique skills in communication and creative problem solving, invention, and thinking on the edge, Ken has presented over 600 invited lectures at events around the world.
Team Showcases: 6-8 live presentations across three stages: high school, university, and startup. Each team gets 4-5 minutes to show what they're actually building, from first robots to funded companies.
High school Student teams:
Team Berkelium (FRC Team 5419) is a student-run robotics program based at Berkeley High School in California that competes in international FIRST Robotics competitions. The team focuses on STEM education, hands-on engineering, and business skills, featuring a 4:1 student-to-mentor ratio and actively promoting inclusivity for women, non-binary students and students from populations historically underrepresented in STEM. 80+ active members.
Team Bearium (5499) is the junior varsity robotics team affiliated with the Berkeley High Robotics team (Berkelium 5419), designed to increase STEM accessibility, fostering skills in coding, fabrication, and design for over 30 very active members. As part of the FIRST California district, the team emphasizes "no cuts, no applications, and no fees" to encourage participation, with members, including sophomores, acting as captains and learning to build, program, and manage electrical work.
The Vibe:
No competition. No judges. Just a room full of people who love robotics, at every stage of the journey - Learning from each other, getting inspired, maeking connections that span generations,
