3RD ST CREATIVE ARTERY is thrilled to welcome curator, contemporary art critic, and poet RENNY PRITIKIN as the featured speaker for the next installment of our ON-SITE INSIGHTS series.
Renny has been a fixture of the San Francisco Bay Area art scene for decades with a long-standing connection to 3RD ST and environs. “Over 40 years…Renny Pritikin worked with, befriended, and sometimes almost got arrested with some of the San Francisco Bay Area’s most innovative and celebrated artists and writers.”
He served as co-director and executive director of New Langton Arts from 1979 to 1992 in SOMA. He was the founding chief curator and director of visual arts at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts from 1992 to 2004. And served as the chief curator of the Contemporary Jewish Museum from 2014 until his retirement in December 2018. For 12 years, he was a senior adjunct professor in the curatorial practice graduate program at California College of the Arts.
The author of five published books of poetry, Renny was poet-in-residence at the Prelinger Library in SOMA. And his memoir At Third and Mission: A Life Among Artists, published in 2023 “reveals the richness of San Francisco’s dynamic art scene from 1979-2018.”
Join us to hear Renny’s insights, on-site. He will be in conversation with painter, filmmaker, author, gallerist GRIFF WILLIAMS. For 32 years Griff’s gallery, Gallery 16, was a vibrant hub of the San Francisco art community, with 20 of those years right on 3RD ST.

• 6:30-7pm: Social half-hour to view the current exhibit PAPER WORKS, mingle IRL, and grab a beverage from Standard Deviant (which you can bring to the talk).
• 7pm: Conversation begins.
• 7pm-8:15-ish: Moderated conversation, followed by Q&A.
• Guests are invited to linger after the talk to connect with other artists and attendees.
