About Event

Few films burrow under the skin quite like Żuławski's incandescent nightmare, shot in the shadow of the Berlin Wall with the desperate energy of something that needed to exist. Sam Neill plays a spy returning home to find his marriage disintegrating in ways that resist any rational explanation, while Isabelle Adjani delivers a performance of such raw, volcanic intensity that it feels less like acting than exorcism — her unforgettable subway sequence alone justifies the film's entire existence. What begins as the anatomy of a failing relationship — the recriminations, the silences, the unbearable intimacy of shared collapse — gradually mutates into something far stranger and more visceral, as the boundaries between psychological rupture and genuine monstrousness dissolve completely. Żuławski channels his own painful divorce into the material, and that biographical wound gives the horror its extraordinary charge. This is a film about love as possession, about the alien thing that lives inside grief. Disturbing, operatic, and utterly unforgettable.
