​The Great Green Wall Initiative (GGWI) is one of the world’s most ambitious efforts to restore degraded land, create green jobs, and build climate-resilient communities across Africa’s Sahel and drylands. As the initiative enters its next decade under the 2024–2034 Strategy, success will depend on empowering Africa’s youth — the generation that will inherit and sustain these landscapes.

​This COP30 side event celebrates young African leaders driving restoration and climate innovation, while fostering collaboration between governments, development partners, and youth movements. It also marks the official engagement of Plant-for-the-Planet with the African Union’s Great Green Wall, working together to scale ecosystem restoration, digital monitoring, and youth participation across Africa’s drylands.
