Query Quest
Guidelines
A team must consist of a maximum of 2 members.
A participant can be part of only one team and team change at a later stage is not allowed.
Only team leader must register for the event and fill in the details of both team members.
Cross-college teams are allowed.
Participants must report to the venue at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start time.
Late arrivals will not be granted additional time once a round has begun.
The contest will consist of 3 rounds, with selected teams proceeding to the next round. Detailed information regarding each round will be provided prior to the event.
The use of external resources (including internet searches), reference material, mobile phones, smart devices, or any unauthorized electronic gadgets is strictly prohibited during the contest rounds.
Any form of plagiarism, code-sharing, unfair collaboration or unauthorized assistance will result in immediate disqualification.
Decisions taken by the coordinators will be final.
Late entries will not be permitted. The registration closes at 5pm, 22nd April 2026.
Round 1: The Group Stage (Aptitude and Fundamentals) | 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM
This round will consist of multiple-choice questions (MCQs).
The questions will cover general aptitude, logical reasoning, and fundamentals of Database Management Systems (DBMS).
In the event of a tie, the time of submission will be considered as the tiebreaker.
Round 2: The VAR Room (SQL Debugging) | 11:30 AM - 01:15 PM
This is a thematic code debugging round where teams must act as the Video Assistant Referee to fix failing queries in the FIFA World Cup's database system.
Teams will be provided with World Cup-themed SQL queries containing missing keywords, broken syntax, or logical errors.
Participants do not need to write complex code from scratch; they simply need to identify the errors and fix the queries to progress.
Surprise, high-risk, high-reward bonus challenges will be revealed during the event.
In the event of a tie, the time of submission will be considered as the tiebreaker.
Round 3: The Grand Finale (Story-Based Exploration) | 2:15 PM - 4:00 PM
This is a story-based database exploration round.
Teams will be given a database and a series of clues. Participants must use SQL queries to filter data, find answers, and progress level by level to reach the final objective.
A built-in Reference Manual (Cheat Sheet) is available for syntax help. However, every second the manual is kept open will incur a time penalty added to your final completion time.
In the event of a tie (teams reaching the exact same level), the team with the lowest Total Elapsed Time (Time Taken + Cheat Sheet Penalty) will be declared the winner.

The timings for each round are tentative and subject to change.
The organizers reserve the right to modify rules and disqualify teams if they are found to be engaged in malpractice.
