Built With, Not For: What Happens When Older Adults Lead the Conversation

Join us for the final AgeTech CO Meet-Up of the year — a cocktail-style gathering where older adults take the lead alongside innovators shaping the future of aging.

Built With, Not For challenges the traditional top-down model of innovation. True progress happens when older adults aren’t simply the end users of products or programs—but the collaborators, co-creators, and catalysts for change.

When older adults lead the design of their own experiences, communities become stronger, solutions become smarter, and aging becomes more human.

We’ll reflect on what we’ve learned throughout this year’s Meet-Up series, talk candidly about what’s working (and what’s still missing), and look ahead to CES 2026 and the growing momentum in the longevity economy.

Expect:

  • A casual, high-energy space for connection and collaboration

  • Candid conversation on designing with, not for, older adults

  • Cross-sector voices from founders, tech, policy, academia, investors, and community

🎤 Speakers

Briony Catlow – Director, Knoebel Institute for Healthy Aging
Briony leads research that brings science out of the lab and into the community—working with older adults to translate data into meaningful impact. At the Knoebel Institute, her leadership reflects a deep commitment to including older adults in the research process itself, ensuring their experiences shape the direction of discovery.

Hilary Simmons – Executive Director, A Little Help
Hilary’s model is built entirely with older adults, neighbors, and volunteers—bridging generations through shared purpose and connection. A Little Help provides over 8,000 annual services ranging from transportation to tech support, proving that aging well is a community effort. Her work shows that designing with older adults starts by listening to what matters most to them.

Cindy Cook – Owner/Operator, Aging 5280
Cindy’s daily work embodies “with, not for.” As a caregiver and business owner, she meets families where they are—co-creating care plans rooted in dignity, trust, and choice. Her personal, people-first approach ensures that the voices of older adults guide every decision, from how services are delivered to how relationships are built.

David Friede – Vice President of Strategy, WisePatient
David is helping rewrite the rules of healthcare by putting patients at the center of their own data. Through WisePatient, he’s led multiple training sessions with Senior Planet community members—virtually and in person—helping older adults access and understand their health records. His work is a model of designing technology with users, not for them, to make care more human and equitable.
